Draw Takes Thimphu U To Knockout Stage

Thimphu Open League Striker Kelzang Tshering rescued a crucial point for Dragon United in the 87th minute to keep their qualification dreams alive yesterday in the ongoing Thimphu Open League at Motithang HSS ground.
With the clock ticking away, Kelzang Tshering took advantage of confusion in the penalty area, during the game against Thimphu United, and scored the crucial equaliser to finish the game 2-2.
Thimphu United, who top Pool F, is guaranteed a berth in the knockout round with the draw.  They took the lead through Kabu in the 10th minute.  Dragon United’s Ugyen Dorji converted a penalty to equalise in the 51st minute.
Thimphu United  again took the lead in the 75th minute, when striker Yeshey Nidup found an unguarded goal at his mercy before cashing in.  Knowing that a loss meant elimination from the tournament, Dragon United pressed  on hard, and their effort paid off in the 87th minute, when Kelzang capitalised on a chance from inside the box.
Meanwhile,  Foreinet’s striker Karma Thinley, with 12 goals in four matches, leads the top scorer race to win the coveted mountain bike prize sponsored by Wilderness Travel.
His closest rival is Karan Gurung with 10 goals, but Binod Tamang from Zion Lions with seven goals with two matches in hand has the chance to knock off Karma Thinley from the perch.
Twenty-eight teams, grouped in six pools, are participating in the league-cum-knockout tournament organised by Dream Adventure Travels.  The winners will be awarded a rolling trophy, along with a cash prize of Nu 35,000 and Nu 25,000.
The tournament also has  attractive individual prizes for outstanding players, teams, managers and officials. Today, Bhutan Post will play Raven FC in a Pool A match.

Chad Vs Cameroon
